I am an author and illustrator, whose lifelong love of children’s books led me to creating some of my own. I hold an A.A. degree in art, a B.S. degree in mass communications, and a M.A. degree in professional writing, and recently completed a 90-hour preschool training course. I have written ad copy, overseen promotions on social media, and planned and managed events. I’ve worked as an art instructor, taught a continuing education writing course, and served as a set designer for area plays. For twenty years, I ran my cake design business, Jo’s Gateaux.
Another role I enjoy is that of Marketing and Publicity Director of the Harford Writers’ Group (HWG). A member since 2008, I enjoy working with and nurturing my fellow members, creating posts on the group’s Facebook page, and planning and producing community writing events. I have served as a consultant for various Harford County Public Library writing conferences as well. HWG has been an instrumental and integral part of my writing success. Monthly meetings are held at the Bel Air Branch of the Harford County Public Library every first Thursday of the month from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
For more information on HWG, visit their website and/or their Facebook page.
As a sensitive, caring teacher, I understand children and encourage them to try new things and cheer them on through milestones and accomplishments. As a writer, I use the words in my written works to help children feel less alone, solve their problems, and believe in themselves. As an artist, I employ whimsical designs and bright colors to create engaging illustrations that bring readers closer to the story and its characters.
